GENECO

BBC GENECO

In groups of 5, we were tasked with creating a provokotype (provocative prototype) of a future tool to the BBC’s UX&D team. My group chose to focus on natural history education as our theme and as a result, created GENECO (generative ecosystem). It animates a largescale holographic landscape with active ecological variables using artificially generated landscapes and real time machine learning using global environmental data. The purpose of this is to educate students through an immersive sensory experience, keeping in mind, that in the future this would take place, we could recreate environmental factors that have now disappeared from Earth, like snowfall for example.

Our prototype is an interactive 3D model of an AI generated landscape. The hardware allows users to switch through different environmental factors such as precipitation, erasure, snowfall, and more. One knob changes the environmental factor, the other knob changes the intensity of that factor.

I took part in idea conception as well figuring out how to build an interactive product. I was confident we could build a 3D landscape and took charge with sculpting and moulding the 3D model.
